Aviles , 30 kms away, stand s out thanks to its historical district and the Niemeyer Centre (The Oscar Niemeyer International Cultural centre) situated on the Aviles estuary which is an internationally renowned culatural complex. It integrates wisdom and artistic creation putting onto practise its philosophy across different cultural activities.
Oviedo, 60 kms in the same direction, and Gijon 50 kms towards Santander, are both towns with all services, cinemas, theatres, etc. and are strongly recommended for their beauty, simplicity and the pleasant journey to them.
It is worthwhile also to note the village of Luarca, on the way to Galice, and known fot its fiching fleet. Severo Ochoa is buried there (Nobel Prize for Physiology and medicine in 1959).
The region is renowned for itds gastronomy where there is the popular Asturian shellfish chowder (ragout), shellfish, a large varietyof fish and excellent beef. Evrything can be accompained with the famous Asturian cider.
Where to shop, the closest place is La Barraca, 2 kms away, whare you will find everything you need. Follow the directions on the Tabacalera signpost. For any other needs (banks, health centre, newsagent, supermarkets, etc.) the closest village is Pravia, 9km away. You will find directions in La Barraca.
